My husband Chris is a cartographer by trade and has offered to create the map once I collect the data. We’re gearing up for spring and opening day for the flower stand. First up will be spring tulips! These are not your average grocery store tulips. We grow fancy specialty varieties that are doubles, fringed, fragrant and gorgeous! They’ll be available on the stand just in time for Mother’s Day.

Meet Buckeye Belle peony. With her wine red dark color, this is one of the more unusual varieties we grow but she is a beauty and looks fabulous in mixed bouquets with shades of purple and lavender and blush.

Continuing our spotlight on peonies! We currently grow 20 varieties of peonies (1300+ plants). This is the Sarah Bernhardt peony—the variety we grow the most of and is a favorite of many. And for good reason! Sarah B’s are so frilly and romantic with gorgeously huge blooms that are divinely fragrant. I’m kind of obsessed. I first encountered these beauties as a young child in my grandfather’s garden in Rangeley, Maine. He was an avid outdoorsman, hunter and guide but also grew the most beautiful flower gardens for my grandmother. When their house was sold, I was able to dig those 70+ year old peonies and they are now a treasured part of my collection.

Calling all peony lovers!

Moving our farm from NH to Maine gave us a unique opportunity to rethink what flowers we wanted to focus on. And while I truly love them all it brought me back to my first love….peonies. That oh no romantic, frilly, heavenly scented harbinger of mid-spring. We are growing many perennials and annuals for our flower stand but our big focus is going to be peonies! Currently, we are growing 20 different varieties with over 1300 plants in the ground. This selection from early to late blooming varieties should give us 6 weeks of blooms for you. Peonies take a couple years to get established so for the first few seasons we will have a limited supply of peony blooms available. After that, we hope to be your go-to place for oodles of luscious peony blooms.

Pictured here one of our favorite varieties: coral charm. It’s one of the few varieties that is not fragrant but we think she makes up for that with her gorgeous coral color.

It’s brutal outside right now so how about a little floral sunshine to brighten your day?

This is my favorite Rudbeckia to grow. It’s a mix of sunny oranges, yellows and lovely autumn tones with double petals.

These were planted last fall and are now tucked in under the snow and with luck we will have loads of gorgeous blooms this summer. Rudbeckia can overwinter nicely or sometimes not. Fingers crossed!

It may be cold and snowy right now but there's a lot going on both under the ground and behind the scenes!

We are excited to announce our self-serve stand will open this spring with load of farm fresh cut flowers for you. Starting in late April/early May (just in time for Mother's Day!) we will have specialty tulips to start off the season followed by peonies, delphiniums and many more flower varieties.

It's no small undertaking to move a farm operation from NH to Maine and we have a lot of infrastructure to rebuild including building a new flower cooler, irrigation system and flower prep area. Follow along as we share our progress!

Hi flower friends,

I have a bittersweet announcement to make. This will be our last season for flowers in Keene. We will be moving and expanding Catbird Flower Farm to midcoast Maine over the coming fall and winter. This is a difficult decision to leave our little corner of southwestern New Hampshire where we have so many wonderful memories.

But mostly, I want to express my gratitude for you, all my wonderful and loyal flower customers! Your support in purchasing my flowers, spreading the word about our farm stand with your friends and just all around good cheer has made this flower farm endeavor a joy.
